The city of Osijek
The city of Osijek is the biggest economy and cultural centre of the whole of eastern Croatia.
With 114 616 inhabitants in 2001 it is the fourth largest city in Croatia. The city that is situated on the right bank of the river Drava is mostly associated with its symbols: the historic city core Tvrđa, the promenade along the river bank and the parish church of St. Peter and Paul.
Osijek is the administrative center of the Osijek-Baranja County. It is of the utmost importance for the entire region, even for the entire state because of the traffic corridor 5c which will connect the Baltic through Central Europe with the Adriatic Sea. The construction of the Trans-European highway Budapest – Osijek – Sarajevo – Ploče is underway and it is expected that the Croatian part of corridor 5c will be completed in 2011.
Travel offers of the city of Osijek are truly special! Diversity and culture, valuable historical sites, beautiful parks, preserved and protected nature make Osijek unique in its own way. You can taste the famous Slavonian kitchen in Osijek restaurants, relax in the beautifully decorated hotels, motels and inns, or walk along the Osijek promenade.
According to all relevant indicators the Osijek retail market is expanding and is in second place, directly after the capitol Zagreb, in the development of retail shopping centers in Croatia. This certainly speaks in favor of the perspective that it is a uniquely attractive market with a future that is about to show its full potential.
